@abc.net.au.web.brid.gy is now a soft target for critics because it has let its #newsreporting and #journalistic standards drop. What has happened to the FACTS => ANALYSIS => OPINION model? It’s become reversed, with too much opinion, too little facts/analysis

Everyone is questioning what the investment mandate of the Future Fund should be when the real question is - why is our $230B fund so small compared to Norway’s $2.68T fund? Hint: gas giveaway to the cartel! #DuopolyFailure #auspol
The Future Fund is Australia's rainy day fund. It has now become a political football
The federal government's decision to have the fund invest in housing and green energy has ruffled Coalition feathers.

Brereton is doing a great job of filibustering this NACC oversight committee hearing which has just 90 minutes for questions from senators. Almost half an hour gone now and he's still in his opening statement. Mostly rehash of his speech from last week so far.

Indeed & it appears it's so convoluted, so rushed & so ill conceived, it may very well be unconstitutional. Anne Twomey explains the whole fiasco in understandable language, in spite of it being such a complicated issue. It's quite shocking actually. #auspol

If Commissioner Brereton thinks that the handling of the Robodebt referral by the NACC hasn't raised big concerns in the community, it really calls his judgment into question.

This is a great, simple piece by @zoerose.bsky.social outlining the ridiculous, illogical and deeply intrusive nature of the AusGov’s social media ban for kids<16.
This band is a classic case of dumb and lazy regulation by government, instead of them doing what parents (and users) want - moderation
The social media ban for kids exists in a much bigger landscape of both policy and technical infrastructure: your digital identity.

Here, have some actual facts. As written by me.

tldr in next post.

Digital ID policy fails you, your kids, and the country
Radically secure digital identity infrastructure is up and running in Europe right now. But not here, in Australia.

His position is now completely untenable. Worse, he has tainted the NACC in its infancy. Unforgivable!
I wish I was making this up, but the boss of the National Anti-Corruption Commission has given a speech where he admits that he acted with "apprehended bias" during the Robodebt non-investigation. As Bernard Keane and many others argue, Brereton has to resign www.crikey.com.au/2024/11/18/p...
Discredited Brereton should stop whingeing and resign from the NACC
The National Anti-Corruption Commission head devoted a major speech to explaining why he shouldn't resign. It perfectly demonstrated why he should.

Absolutely, @zoedaniel.bsky.social
We’ve seen what oligopoly does to our air travel, supermarkets etc. In politics, restricting entry entrenches an oligarchy that is unable to drive any meaningful, beneficial change.
We need electoral reform, but not in the form of a stitch up that favours the 2 party system and locks communities out of democracy. The government’s electoral reform bill needs proper scrutiny. Watch. Part 2.
