It's actually kind of amazing how sloppy the music news ecosystem has gotten. Working on an article about Slipknot, and many sites have basically the same craptastic AI article that links to the wrong article for an interview!

Took some digging to b/c the wrong link is everywhere!

WSJ investigation: In the past 6 months ICE agents have fired at vehicles 13 times, leading to:

* 8 people shot
* 5 of which were U.S. citizens
* 2 died
* no victims drew a weapon

The playbook: Agents box in a vehicle, block attempts to flee, then fire

Videos Show How ICE Vehicle Stops Can Escalate to Shootings
A WSJ visual investigation found that the Minneapolis ICE killing is one of 13 incidents where federal immigration agents have used deadly force against civilians in vehicles since July.

When I wrote this article and made the post, I didn't realize that the price of the SP Compressor pedal had gone up $40 recently! Yikes!

Bet it's from tariffs on components. Xotic makes their pedals in the USA. Hopefully this kind of crap doesn't price us all out of music

#guitar #guitareffects
Xotic's SP compressor has been a really solid guitar pedal purchase for me. It gets good reviews, but it has been a pleasant surprise how useful it is when practicing/recording with an interface. I posted about this and a couple more pedals

Now that I’m learning about APIs I’m shocked that so many subscriptions services are basically just wrappers of a free API service.

husbando told me the other day that most guitarists don't use pedalboards anymore, just have the guitar tech do whatever effect they need and i feel like i just found out santa wasn't real.

Notably, allowing for controlled, isolated extension through some *extremely* simple interface can be very robust. See kitchenaid mixer attachments, UNIX utility programs, guitar pedals, and more :P

As musicians, keeping the attention of an audience is as much a part of recording and performing music as keeping time. Now social media is a part of that.

wrote about how social media automation & analytics can help musicians save time for music!

honestly, I am hitting a classic adhd trap. I've wanted to buy a mandolin to add some Appalachian flavor to my black metal environmentalist concept album. But it's a different tuning from guitar, bass, uke, so I hit real time/attention limits sometimes

Would a manditar be a solution or a cop-out?

Self-gifting myself Archetype John Mayer X for Xmas worked out to be a W. I like the Neural DSP plugins a lot in general, but they offer enough of them at enough cost that you need to be picky.

Review up including a short clip mixed with bass and drums

Everyone with ADHD knows how fast you ignore a reminder, whether digital or actual sticky note, after seeing it a few times. Your mind will glance right past it, almost immediately.

Todo list apps completely forget that this happens.
A cool audhd thing to do is make a lifescript to randomly pick shit for you to do: randomly spit out one of the books you're actively reading, things to study or a project you're working on, a room to clean, dish to make, etc.

Highly recommend outsourcing your executive function to dicerolls.

HOLY HOT PEDALBOARD!

The average summer temperature for urban churches in the organ books sample was 17.2C during the late 1960s. By the 2020s, it had reached 19.8C.
NEW: Organ tuners have been leaving temperature and humidity records in little-known books for decades. 🎹

They reveal how temperatures inside churches have changed over time due to climate change and increased heating.

A new scoop for The Reengineer!

surprisingly, I didn't buy any effects pedals for myself for Christmas, but I did spend like all morning noodling with Archetype John Mayer from neural DSP! lots of fun!

seems pretty versatile, covers a lot of sonic ground for me that isn't strictly my comfort zone (as a metal player)

I wasn't trying to buy more amp sims, but I guess I'm going to have to take the plunge again with Archetype John Mayer.

Good thing I got a guitar back from the tech with single coils recently

will put a review up on my site at some point!
