that's kind of the type of gig my pal is looking for. he's been trying to make it in the games industry as a 3d modeller and it nearly killed him.

oh! my friend is thinking about getting an education in network engineering/servicing. sounds like a good job

sounds like a fun gig! was it mainly driving or did you do other things as well?
November 11, 2025 at 9:52 AM

was the server on while you were moving it?
November 11, 2025 at 6:50 AM
we should 100% unironically go back to that, at least people put some thought and love into their files when you had to commit to them.

this is peak, not sure what exactly, but it's peak that.
November 10, 2025 at 4:50 PM
honestly, that is the way.

have you seen how amazon used to handle database migrations? with an 18-wheeler that could carry 100 petabytes of data. way faster than using the internet lol
November 10, 2025 at 4:29 PM
the ideal way of transferring data is every single file at once, 1 byte at a time. that way all of your transfers will be completed at the exact same time... in 9 hours.

I LOVE how i can't set a priority flag on my files. the brain geniuses at google are too learned in their infinite wisdom and are making that choice for me.

it's great that i can't even pause uploads while downloads finish. thank you for making computer choices for me you compsci fascists.
November 10, 2025 at 4:23 PM
why can't i just have the files locally on my computer? why do they have to live in the cloud somewhere and i have to do a 50gb data transfer every time i need to access my shit? why can't i deliver in the old school way of loading everything onto a hard drive and throwing it at the clients head?
November 10, 2025 at 4:20 PM
i reduced the whole project to get rid of unused files and there's still a 2.9gb .mov clip of a fucking showreel somewhere in there that is counted as a dependancy. I LOVE COMPUTER
