That used to be on my daily bike commute! Adding bike lanes onto University (esp if they were protected) would be amazing.

Nice is high on my list too, BTW. Such a livable city, strangely-easy to get around in, plus super-close to a LOT of affordable ski resorts.

It was the anti-public-transit stance of the city that kept me away from Nashville when moving from the west coast in 2022. I couldn't visualize living in a rapidly-growing city with no viable alternatives to sitting in traffic.

Working presently at a customer that has precisely nothing in a wiki at all. A handful of assorted PPT's and Figmas, 2 worthwhile word docs, and the memory and lore from one particular contractor, and that's it.

Allow that to describe my level of fatigue

Not this time. Unfortunately "it was the feature file on the bot management system" doesn't fit as well on a t-shirt. blog.cloudflare.com/18-november-...
Cloudflare outage on November 18, 2025
Cloudflare suffered a service outage on November 18, 2025. The outage was triggered by a bug in generation logic for a Bot Management feature file causing many Cloudflare services to be affected.

Go back to what, though? Every approach has trade-offs. Anything larger than a single server requires load balancers and infrastructure. I've built my own janky CDN before, but that's WORK, and Cloudflare, Fastly & others are free to get started. One can go back, but that choice comes with baggage.

I really super extra hope that someone with social media & communications expertise convinces them otherwise. Most engineers don't have it on their lists daily to check experience league in the release notes section to see if there's anything to comment on.

It was a "brief" outage, but still causing problems. It went down at 6:48ET and almost 2 hours later, there are plenty of @cloudflare.social backed services still having issues.

These days it's the fun game of "which major CDN/cloud provider will go down today?"

I'm sure you're familiar with the scholarly work of Dr. Inman, the world's preeminent authority on this matter

I thought this was a work post for a second

I have so absolutely little interest in smart devices for this very reason. "Saving time" in exchange for WHAT.

Did you ever think before being a parent that a core competency would end up being the ability to perform a rapid & thorough cleanup of vomit from any surface, any time of the day or night, even while you're sound asleep?
