The title Duke of York has hardly been out of the news lately but where did it originate? The title was first awarded to Edmund of Langley, (1341-1402), the fourth surviving son of King Edward III, founder of the House of York. 1/2

US tech companies want to invest £31 billion in UK tech infrastructure. Fine, but with so much now invested in AI ($27 trillion last I heard) that has every sign of being a bubble that will burst when AI inevitably doesn't deliver, with catastrophic results worse than the South Sea 1720 fiasco.

Poppies emerge in my garden
Against a sea of white and yellow daisies
Yesterday there were 4
Today there are 6
Soon they will all be gone
I did not set out find this beauty
But it seems to have found me.
I will make the most of it.

This guy and his cronies are putting thousands of satirical writers out of work. How can you satirise or parody something so utterly ludicrous?

I understand the US wants the UK to repeal equality legislation as a precondition of a trade deal between them. UK, are you ready to answer the question? "Yes, it's NO DEAL!"

In 1392 Richard II eliminated tariffs on eel imports, & asked foreign merchants to bring eels "from over sea, where they are abundant, to London where they are dear."

He knew that higher tariffs meant getting less of what you want. Oh, the lessons that eel history can teach us...

So, the US wants to impose trade tariffs on what it describes as "the worst offenders". How about we impose tariff sanctions on those countries who are the worst offenders for environmental harm? Who would they be? Let me think...

I think a US state visit to the UK might be postponed, just for a decade or two.

The actions of the US government including failing to recognise Russia as the aggressor against Ukraine are acts of avarice and moral cowardice so heinous that they call for more than mere condemnation by what is left of the free world.

So the US President wants to "make a deal" with the UK? Well, Mr President, speaking on behalf of many people in the UK I can say that you have nothing to offer my country that we want and you can just go fuck yourself.

The new UK Land Management Scheme neatly divides the map into 3 areas of farming, nature and infrastructure, achieving a new height of folly by simultaneously creating a false trichotomy and three false dichotomies.

The people and government of the UK take a very poor view of foreign citizens who attempt to interfere in its domestic affairs. If the US government can not prevent its citizens from doing so friendly relationships between our two countries can not continue.

The recent death of a special forces veteran in Las Vegas was not a terrorist act. It was a symbolic suicide. It will probably not be the last. The choice of location and vehicle were significant but the method of death was a sidearm. The device constructed was not a bomb but a funeral pyre.
