Nice to discover that my blog is being read in the right places:

A European Parliament briefing on the Commission's Clean trade and investment partnerships quotes my blog post on the turn to non-binding agreements in EU trade policy.

@fredericmerand.bsky.social doesn’t mention that EU membership is only open to “European states”, which is a geographic concept.

Morocco’s bid was denied on that basis.

We had Dr. Joyce De Coninck over this week at Utrecht University to talk to us about her book "The EU's Human Rights Responsibility Gap." She lays out how difficult it is for (often vulnerable) people to get relief for violations of their fundamental rights caused by the EU & its agencies & bodies.

Yesterday, our annual EU trade & investment law workshop took place at Utrecht University.

We took our time to thoroughly discuss 7 papers connected to the broad theme of #EconomicSecurity.

Once again impressed by the quality of the contributions!

Question to the #CJEU:

"Does the European Union have exclusive competence to conclude the Agreement on Air Transport between the Sultanate of Oman, of the one part, and the European Union and its Member States, of the other part?"

Are we moving beyond #mixity in transport policy?

A nice thing about teaching EU external relations law at KU Leuven is its proximity to the EU institutions. Today we had Frank Hoffmeister (EEAS) & Frederik Naert (Council Legal Service) over to talk to the LLM students about the role of the Council Presidency in external relations.
