FWIW, for the 0 people other than me who care, @gamesdonequick.com did in fact fix this animation! velocity #5 no longer briefly TFs into velocity #1 when confused. the mismatching sprite in their sheet is gone altogether

like they made extra geometry on this facade to accomplish this drop shadow, and some contact shading where it meets, plus of course the drop shadows of all the buildings. a lot of the buildings have a vertex-based faux AO around them. i wonder if they had means of automating some of it
