It's nowhere near flawless, that's for sure.

On the other hand, BlueSky can unilaterally remove your content from appview (i.e. most users), regardless of your PDS. That's a major caveat.

I'm not saying Mastodon is flawless and the solution to all our issues.
But the criticism I've seen ramp up lately feels either misinformed or misguided.

"What about Blacksky?"
Blacksky is great. Blacksky is arguably closer to the promise of Mastodon than most Mastodon instances.

But Bluesky still holds the Official App, which mean BlueSky can still hide your content from the majority of its userbase, on a whim.

I get that BlueSky is more convenient in a hundred ways, heck, I'm here, am I not? But here's what I don't understand :

Thing is, on Mastodon, I can jump ship easily if I disagree with the policy, and within minutes I'm back in business.

I can pick an instance specifically for its policies.

I can host my own.

As BlueSky moderation cranks up, I'm genuinely surprised to see so many users diss on Mastodon.

"It's like leaving your account to the whim of an unbridled Reddit admin with no accountability," I read. Okay. Not wrong.

I don't know. Whenever I disagreed with my host's policy on Mastodon, it took me less than 10 minutes to migrate to another server, posts and followers unaffected. That sounds like pretty good decentralization to me.

Shut this shit down once and for all to protect the future of games.
