Hey folks: we’re supporting South Minneapolis latino-owned businesses and the unhoused at the same time—buying breakfast burritos from local taquerias to distribute to unsheltered folks.

Help us help each other!

I just threw up a bit of the prep. My first time - not a fan ☹️

That stinks that you weren't able to finish. I hope mine is sufficient

I didn't know their CEO left. They need to get the word out, and do an advertising campaign about what a major fuck up they committed, and hire someone that shows a commitment to diversity ( no idea who that is ..). Then, maybe, they can turn it around. But yeah, they're probably done.

Holy shit, that's amazing! I've never seen bargello used that way before!

We also took a class, tried out an incredibly expensive sewing machine, bought some patterns, notions and fabric, learned how to repair/conserve a damaged quilt I recently inherited, talked to lots of people about our shared obsession, and entered several raffles. 10/10, would recommend.

A color pallet, a size and a theme, and you end up with dozens of amazing octopuses, angler fish, divers, coral and etc. So impressive en mass! Amazing how a theme and color way can make a cohesive whole out of so many different interpretations.

I have to stop! I just keep remembering cool shit!

This was my first quilting convention and I was amazed. I was not prepared for how extensive the show part was. We eventually just couldn't absorb any more art. So wonderful. There are about 500 other quilts I could mention -ah! The deep sea thing!

There were also painful quilts by survivors of the Syrian civil war and refugees from Congo and Cambodia, and they were VERY hard. Scenes of beheadings, rape, ethnic cleansing and more. They are a powerful witness to these people's experience and, I hope, a way for them to work through their trauma.

The Taiwanese quilters were amazing and so prolific! There was a quilt by Japanese person that was lovely and mentioned that it was inspired by rainy days and that she just hoped it would be seen by people and bring them joy and it did! It was wonderful!

The group that reproduced a Harriet Powers story quilt and then had members reinterpret a block each in their own way, and provided a member to educate us about them was just so amazing, both for the quilts and for having a member teach us, rather than just the written statements.

There are so many other amazing quilts that I didn't think to take pictures of. The quilt by the Polish guild that used a religious mural are is inspiration - the way it looked perfect from a distance, but as you got close you realized that the blocks were done in different methods/ styles.

A more whimsical quilt, and one that made my friend and I laugh out loud!

Three Travelers in Search of a Vague Notion by Nikki Hill

Everything about this. The skill, the humor, the artistry, the sheer number of methods used. Absolutely charmed by this.

Maybe start with where you would have been normally scheduled to be? Just skip over those other days.

If you feel good after doing your daily cartoon, maybe work on a second, if not whatever, you're still back on track.

Good luck, I love your work 💜

What a devastating gardening emergency. Thank God for our brave guardsmen, sacrificing time from their families and jobs, to save DC from weeds. Surely, the most efficient and cost effective means of beautifying our capital.

Spy movies in general, but ... You want someone to move unnoticed through cities, bureaucracies or commercial areas? Get a fat woman. No one engages, no one remembers, no one questions. The idea that a hot person is necessary to gain access to organizations is just an excuse to write sex scenes.

A few more stats:

Nearly a third of the country's workforce—roughly 52 million people—earns under $15/hr.

12.1 million low-income tenants are now "severely cost burdened," spending at least half their income on rent.

About 50% of people in homeless shelters—and 40% of those unsheltered—have jobs.

I finally realized it's because I only watch streaming without ads. They need to advertise on social media or news sites, I guess. Radio/podcasts probably aren't the best medium for movie trailers, either...

Now our company gets to train at least 2 new RNs, at an average cost of 30k.

For those in hospital management - there are 2 reasons RNs stay: pay and the ability to get the schedule we want. If your "market adjustment" is $0.10/hr, then a messed up schedule is more than enough reason to leave.

My company just implemented an AI scheduling service created by Palantir. The roll out is going so well 2 people have already quit and several others are looking for new jobs. Also, this replaced zero jobs - our senior charge created the schedule before and she's still working.

In true public service fashion, the PBS Kids app is totally free. Hundreds of episodes free to stream - Daniel Tiger, Martha Speaks, Sesame Street and Arthur. Cool new stuff I've never heard of, it's all there!
