focus your effort on the people actually using it for dumb or evil reasons or everyone will just end up ignoring all criticisms of it

the end result of this is actually 0% different vs if I did it manually other than taking a couple hours less to do

this use case in particular works well because
1. I dont care about the code quality of the script at all (its pretty ass)
2. its a thing I run once and can verify that the output is correct

chatgpt is very good at python these days. kinda spent most of the day having it write ad hoc scripts to migrate text from data files to localization spreadsheets for me. requires pretty specific instructions to do well now, but gets it all mostly correct without much prodding now

thank god for the AI weather. How else would I know that today is a "great day to go outside, just bring a light jacket"?
tylerglaiel.com
There doesn't seem to be any way to get the default Weather app working again. clearing its cache and restarting it and reinstalling it and it just fails to get current location weather

its incredible how many parts of my phone broke after the latest android update. does google just have AI writing all their code now?
tylerglaiel.com
its a mix of intuition and playtesting (either by ourselves or others), making a lot of games before this helps build the experience needed to have said intuition

Ed also posted a second "gameplay preview" video today. I will be recording one live later this month as well, where you will get to vote on what event and level up choices I make. This game is cool!

i dont know any devs who have that reasoning on it, its mostly just repeated by random trolls
tylerglaiel.com
the people shouting "dont add easy mode because git gud, scrub!" are noise, that's not the actual reasoning behind decisions to exclude it, ever
tylerglaiel.com
This is the one bit I disagree on, its a completely valid game design decision to not offer difficulty modes. It's a valid design decision to add them too. Game design is complicated and its up to the dev to decide what fits in with the game's goals and design or not

option 1: fix the bug then re-code the intended behavior "the correct way"

option 2: just leave an "I can explain!" comment instead lol
tylerglaiel.com
when you notice that code that absolutely should not be working just accidentally has the correct behavior because of a different bug
tylerglaiel.com
it was never a "hundreds of hours of varied content" roguelike but I can't really complain about a game that "gets old after 60 hours"

hades 2 feels like its getting old earlier than that because its the same game lol
tylerglaiel.com
I liked the first one well enough mainly because I didnt really like any of supergiants's games before that, but placing their action RPG stuff into a roguelike shell (and removing the constant narrator) fixed most of the issues I had with their previous games.
tylerglaiel.com
the weapon boons have always been the most interesting ones cause they actually change how you play when you get them. would have liked more stuff like that
tylerglaiel.com
yeah, same as the first game. Even so the reward for those is very often just some variant on "do more damage if you do X" anyway
tylerglaiel.com
I guess I was hoping that they'd make the boons more interesting this time around but its just a whole lot of "your fire effects deal +18% damage" again
tylerglaiel.com
its not any more shallow than the first game or anything, but its shallow in the *same ways* so it does tend to wear out faster since I already know what to expect out of everything
