I do recommend the series, it's a lot of fun. Also on the topic of gayness, what I especially find charming (and realistic) is the running theme that canonical Disaster Bisexual Xena has great taste in women and wretched taste in men.

Heck, halfway through the series they introduce a category of episode that's just "Lady villain falls in love with Gabby and tries to steal her from Xena." Also they raise multiple kids (and Joxer) together.
