Long Sun catches a lot of flak (Silk being didactic constantly, the pits) but it hass the strongest setting in the solar cycle. Just impeccable whorl building, truly

Read Short Sun. It's the reason Long Sun exists

"Feel like they were written by a different author" :P

Long Sun is great but this is absolutely the answer. Short Sun imo is the greatest Wolfe work but Long Sun is required for Short Sun to succeed. The biggest New Sun mystery imo is illuminated *right* at the end of Short Sun and changes your understanding of the entire cycle. Just superb

Why you listening to podcasts when you haven't completed the work?! Read on, dear reader!

It doesn't square that Dorcas would be an agent of Vod bc the agent that Vod bids Sev to seek in the House Absolute is the Autarch himself (a classic Wolfe closed loop). Also, Dorcas has been a corpse for quite some time. I doubt she would have the motive to turn on the man that brought her back.

A double agent for whom?

Given to her by the Autarch is the key here. For me, this indicates the turning nature of the Autarch (Vodulas at least being manipulated by him, or, more extremely, a willing tool) rather than Dorcas being in cahoots with the rebels. Dorcas would've stayed with Sev if she were an agent.

Devil in the Forest is my fav first rec for Wolfe newbies. One of my favs!

Oof man, plot retention is not an interpretation. What you are missing lurks in Severian’s family tree. That's all I'll say. Happy hunting!

"You" is not a podcast, my man. Maybe give Sword another read? Wolfe is definitely giving you a big reveal about Dorcas, but it's not cause she's a spy.
