...yes. yes i did try the spin. it spins *so good*

I wish i had asked for a spin when i gave it to her, but I forgot. Oh well, life happens!

Overall: 10/10 project, I felt like I knew what I was doing 85% of the time, I would not do it again. But if I did, I know how I would go about it.

It was finished. Now all that was left was to clean up my work. I had to hide SOOOO many thread ends. I hope I got them all! Meanwhile my mil had helped me figure out why the skirt was sitting wrong and we got it fixed in one night. We da bomb c:

I attached the belt and added some decorative stitching to the front. I also added a red ribbon to the bottom, to match the inside color of the belt.
The belt and the skirt are being pinned together, wrong sides out. Both belts are pinned to the skirt. The sewing machine and pins are barely visible in the corner. A red ribbon is sewn onto the bottom of the skirt with nearly invisible red thread. It looks really good with the pleats c: The same shiny bronze decorative thread is being used to baste along the seam between the top tier and the bottom three tiers of the skirt.

I got kinda discouraged because even though the skirt looked like a skirt, it was hanging weirdly low in the front. So I took a break and made the belt. And then tried to decide how I wanted the belt to be. I made a few different designs
Two brown and red belts are folded and stacked on top of one another. One of them has an open unfinished side. A drawing in green pen showing my second plan for the belt. I would connect the two belts together, but leave the top tier separated and put a pocket in there. The pocket didn't end up happening. If only I'd had a bit more time... Pencil drawing of the draft I ended up going with. I decided to connect the belts on one side and have them both open on the other side. This would give the entire skirt more flexibility, since I wasn't sure on the size I would need.

I decided that the top tier of the skirt couldn't just be normal and needed to be *special*. So I experimented a little and it seemed to turn out ok (spoilers: it didn't hang right and my mil and I had to undo the seam and redo it better)

Disaster struck! I lost a crucial part of my sewing machine. But my mil came to the rescue again. She lent me her old machine. And she convinced me to stop hurting my wrist.

My mil gave me a leftover drop cloth to protect the skirt from grass and pet hair and that seemed to work great. Because each tier of the skirt was smaller, the more pleats I sewed, the more manageable it got. Eventually I could work on it inside again.

I also decided how to lock the hems.
A third tier is pinned to the first two tiers. Plastic is visible underneath. The skirt appears to be rolled in the plastic. Some pins sit in a container on top of the skirt. The skirt is being fed through a sewing machine with no cord. The setup is janky as hell. I was hand cranking this project up to this point. I almost injured my wrist.
