⚡County workers in Lorain County, Ohio, voted to authorize a strike with an overwhelming 86% "YES" vote. It’s time for Lorain County Jobs and Family Services to agree to a fair contract for the essential workers who make the county run.

This is a moral failure, not a financial failure. Instead of bargaining over fair pay, Conn-Selmer decided to ship its Ohio operations to China. Hundreds of union jobs are on the chopping block so billionaires can reap more profits. UAW members are gearing up for a big fight to keep these jobs.

The Flint sit-down strikers proved that through solidarity and collective action, workers could win the dignity and respect they deserved.

UAW Statement on the Michigan Senate’s Unanimous, Bipartisan Passage of SB 700
The UAW applauds yesterday’s unanimous, bipartisan vote in the Michigan Senate to pass SB 700 and fix a real problem that affects hundreds of thousands of Michigan workers, including thousands of UAW members. Today, Lansing legislators showed something important: when elected leaders focus on solving the real problems workers face, common-sense solutions can rise above partisan fights. Protecting the working class doesn’t have to be Democratic or Republican. It’s simply the right thing to do. We thank the bill’s sponsors and every senator who chose to stand with Michigan’s workers. Now we look to members of the Michigan House to carry that bipartisan spirit forward so Governor Whitmer can sign this into law. Without swift action, laid-off Michigan workers are facing a holiday season without access to critical benefits because of an issue from the pandemic a half-decade ago. The UAW looks forward to a quick resolution to this injustice.

🧵 On this day in 1952, Walter Reuther was elected president of the Congress of Industrial Organizations (CIO) after a hotly contested election against Vice President Allen S. Haywood. Reuther succeeded longtime CIO president, Phillip Murray, who unexpectedly passed away on November 9 of that year.
