Hurricane Melissa has made landfall in Jamaica as a powerful Category 5 hurricane with 185 mph sustained winds. It will tie the strongest hurricane to make landfall in Atlantic recorded history based on central pressure. Follow the latest forecast here: www.hurricanes.gov

Hot water is hurricane fuel and the Caribbean is HOT. According to Climate Central, the warmer-than-usual ocean surface temperature below Melissa is 700x more likely due to human-caused #ClimateChange. When there’s more fuel, any hurricane can strengthen further and for a longer period of time.
October 24, 2025 at 4:33 PM
#Melissa is slowly continuing its journey across the Caribbean Sea and is expected to strengthen into a hurricane by tomorrow and reach major hurricane strength by Sunday, posing a significant threat to Haiti, Jamaica, Cuba and the Dominican Republic. For the latest, check out www.hurricanes.gov.

Nearly half of the nation’s affordable housing stock experienced three or more weeks’ worth of extreme heat alerts in 2024, the hottest year on record, as the affordable housing and climate crises increasingly collide.
October 23, 2025 at 2:55 PM
📢NEW: @ucs.org finds that most of the nation’s affordable homes were in counties exposed to 1 or more weeks’ worth of heat alerts in 2024. Major metropolitan areas account for about 1/3 of the affordable housing exposed and thousands of counties in less densely populated areas account for ~2/3.

The fingerprint of climate change is everywhere here. According to Climate Central’s Climate Shift Index, human-caused climate change made the warm-than-usual waters under Melissa 600 times more likely. csi.climatecentral.org/ocean
