And of course, this is no accident. Big Oil has spent decades orchestrating this campaign of deception, disinformation, and greenwashing. Corporations such as ExxonMobil, Shell, BP and Chevron have actively obstructed the clean energy transition. Read more: www.ucs.org/resources/de...

New study shows fossil fuel industry only contributes to 1.42% of global renewable energy. The largest 250 oil & gas companies may only produce 0.1% of their primary energy from renewable sources. Their actual investment in clean energy is negligible compared to their massive fossil fuel extraction.
Oil and gas industry’s marginal share of global renewable energy
Nature Sustainability - The decarbonization of oil and gas companies may not be as speedy or robust as advertised. This analysis finds that renewable energies make up just a minor fraction of the...

"Despite his relevant expertise and career experience, Dr. Jacobs has already demonstrated he’s willing to undermine science and his employees for political purposes as he did during the infamous ‘Sharpiegate’ scandal."
We Watched Neil Jacobs’ Confirmation Hearing for NOAA Administrator and Are Concerned About What We Heard
Either he supports NOAA research or he supports budget cuts. He can´t do both.

“Not surprisingly, these scientists’ names and viewpoints were familiar from previous research by UCS and others, congressional testimony, and other public appearances.” Find out who authored the Trump administration’s sham climate report and uncover their ties to the #FossilFuel industry.

EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin recently proposed a rule that would eliminate requirements for measuring and reporting carbon emissions for most US industries, including fossil fuel producers and refiners. UCS’s Laura Peterson explains why this proposal could backfire, harming both people and business.
Trump Administration Attempt to Eliminate Carbon Emissions Reporting Could Backfire
A look at the global business and policy landscape, however, indicates that this effort may hurt not just public health and safety, but the very companies the proposal is supposed to help.

BREAKING: The Trump admin has installed 100+ fossil fuel insiders and corporate lobbyists to roles across federal agencies.

These staffers are enacting a dirty energy agenda and destroying our public lands.

Maine is fighting to make Big Oil companies pay for climate damages, stop engaging in deceptive practices, and give up the profits that they illegally obtained while lying to consumers about the dangers of fossil fuels.

A court just ruled that the state's case can go forward. 🙌

Last week, the U.S. Energy Secretary falsely claimed “there are not oil and gas subsidies.” 🙄

In reality, "nothing even comes close” to fossil fuel subsidies, @whitehouse.senate.gov told @emdashsanders.bsky.social.

A new @oilchange.bsky.social report calculated them to be $34.8 billion annually.

The heat will shift into the Northeast early next week where temperatures are expected to exceed 80F for multiple days in Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, and portions of the interior Northeast. This kind of heat is typical of July, not October. Check out your forecast at www.weather.gov.

These unseasonably warm temperatures have big implications for people, livelihoods and ecosystems, and will get worse as the planet continues to warm.

These record-breaking temperatures so late in the season aren’t by chance. According to Climate Central’s Climate Shift Index, these temperatures were made 4x more likely due to fossil fuel-caused climate change.

Locations like Minneapolis, MN are forecasted to approach 90F Friday and Saturday. If they reach 90F on Saturday, it would be the latest point in the calendar year that this has occurred in the city’s recorded history.

Climate change won’t stop for a government shutdown. We’re following a developing late-season heatwave in the Midwest and Northeastern US. Temperatures are expected to be over 20F above normal today through early next week.

If we zoom out, the special interests behind the administration’s attacks on climate science are the same people who bear an outsized responsibility for the crisis in the first place: oil and gas companies (www.ucs.org/resources/tr...).
Tracing Tides
Major fossil fuel producers have played a large role in driving climate change and increasing global temperatures and sea levels, prompting questions about who bears responsibility.

While the 2025 hurricane season seems quiet - no landfalls in the U.S. - we’ve already observed 3 major hurricanes in the Atlantic Ocean. For the first time since 1935, the Atlantic’s first 3 hurricanes were major (Erin, Gabrielle, Humberto). Humberto is still a Cat 4 hurricane near Bermuda.

Folks living along the southeast coast are dealing with flooding and surf impacts from Tropical Storm Imelda. Luckily, Imelda is not expected to make landfall in the U.S. and instead will drift out to sea. Be sure to follow the National Hurricane Center for the latest information: www.hurricanes.gov

The Trump administration’s continuing attacks on science and scientists make us all less safe. Congress must work to counteract the administration’s budget cuts, ensuring that #NOAA and #FEMA are fully funded and staffed to effectively warn of and respond to future climate disasters.
