There's nothing wrong in being an excellent R2 university - supporting student academic and personal success, supporting excellent faculty research and scholarship, supporting regional economic development in your state.

"Rights, liberties, and freedoms are never secure when they lie dormant or unused." Interesting article in the latest volume of the Journal of Academic Freedom. Rather than thinking of #AcademicFreedom as a defense against attacks, we should make it an active practice.

We should always be reviewing our programs, making sure they fit our mission and serve the needs of our students, adding, tweaking, and phasing out as needed. The process gets fraught though when it's driven by cost savings rather than academic program health.

Do colleges suppress diverse opinions, as is often claimed by culture warriors? Not according to students, who feel respected by peers and faculty, who feel a sense of belonging, and who think their campuses do a good job in this area. #FreeSpeech #AcademicFreedom

Of course we need a diversity of viewpoints on campus. I'm glad the article calls for campus conservatives to oppose the federal assault on #HigherEd, but where are the examples that this is actually happening? Where are the conservative think tanks pushing back?
