The holidays can be lonely for the elderly — that's where our community comes in.

With our support of COJECO’s Project Kavod, Russian-speaking Holocaust survivors and their families gathered for a joyful Hanukkah concert and talent show, replacing isolation with music and connection.

For eight nights, our community gathered alongside our partners at menorah lightings across NYC, Westchester, and Long Island to celebrate Hanukkah.

In moments of darkness, coming together to light the menorah reminds us of the strength and resilience that carry us forward.

For Deborah, 75, Selfhelp's Virtual Senior Center has been a lifeline — turning isolation into connection, purpose, and joy.

We’re honored that UJA’s long-standing partnership with The New York Times Communities Fund helps make programs like this possible for thousands of older New Yorkers.

We also thank Rabbis Steinmetz, Kraus, Wilhelm, and Krasnianski for leading this evening’s candle lighting, and to
Rabbi Menachem Creditor, our scholar-in-residence, whose brother-in-law was injured in this heinous attack, for speaking this evening.

Tonight, we joined Jewish New Yorkers on the UES, across the city, and the whole of klal Yisrael, in lighting candles for the first night of Hanukkah — in remembrance of the victims of the horrific, antisemitic terrorist attack in Sydney, and in defiance of the hatred that will never dim our light.

We're horrified and heartbroken by the depraved, antisemitic terrorist attack at a Hanukkah celebration in Sydney. As we prepare to light our own candles this evening, we keep the victims and their families in our hearts.

Jewish students are facing rising antisemitism right in their own schools.

We are outraged by the demonstrations outside of Park East Synagogue. Calling for an intifada outside of a synagogue is antisemitic — and unacceptable.

We are horrified by the blatant antisemitism on display in newly released audio from a recent event at City College, and we call on CUNY officials to ensure incidents like this cannot and will not happen again.

With fall giving way to colder days, we're warming the challah as we welcome a chilly Shabbat. 🍂

We loved seeing students from our partner, Hillel at Binghamton, come together for a fun-filled day of apple picking.

Wishing you a restful and cozy #ShabbatShalom.
