A former believer examining his own beliefs through humor and discussion. Questioning everything I grew up believing. Also wrestling and whatever else is on my mind.
I think the only part I miss is the community, I lost essentially everyone for a time, until I was able to meet some new people.

I find people who don't have a bias against scientology to be pretty suspicious in general.

That being said, I do appreciate progressive Christians and I will stand side by side with them to fight against the many things we do agree on, but it still doesn't make sense when you have to essentially throw out large parts of the Bible to do so.

An atheist might not adopt the humanist framework, adopting an anti-humanist or nihilist view, they could simply find morality impossible without some kind of god. You could have something like deontology or consequentialism as well. That being said, I do find Humanism to have the most utility.

There are a lot of atheists that also consider themselves humanists, but the two are different and distinct ideas. Humanism is deriving morals from reason over religion, while atheism is simply a lack of belief in gods. There are atheists that aren't humanists, and humanists that aren't atheists.

The Bible mandates going out and preaching to the world, and many Christians run with it in an almost more extreme way than the Bible advocates for. Dominion theology plays into it as well, as they believe their god gives them authority over all. Pushing it is unfortunately baked into the religion.

Worked at a fast food joint years back after I was just out of high school where we had a guy get fired for using the sink they'd wash dishes in for this 😂.

The best thing you can do for yourself is to never stop learning, it's the same thing I'm trying to teach my kids. I was raised in a heavily conservative, evangelical church, so I grew up learning to never question, now that's all I do. Learning is fun!

It's similar to, and yes this is something I've actually seen, a Christian saying the criticism of their religion and Bible is Christianphobic. It's important to understand the difference between the criticism of a religion and bigotry towards a people group.
