When I hear people say that we are a divided nation, they never seem to mean the powerful and aspiring-to-be powerful against the marginalized and exploited. Instead they seem to imply an almost superficial but vehemently maintained gulf in worldviews among white Americans.

This is heartbreaking 💔 and infuriating! There has to be accountability and justice for the #Epstein survivors!

Any anger that comes from recognizing the degradation of women here will be labeled irrational. So even women sympathetic to feminism will feel the need to engage with the question in order to fight the stereotype of women as inherently irrational. It’s a multi-faceted trap.
Why decline all these chances to defend feminism? Because to participate would be accepting the premise that our rights and humanity are up for debate in the first place.

Once you’ve conceded that it’s reasonable to ask whether women’s equality was a mistake, you’ve already lost.

One false dichotomy that makes leftists allergic to feminism is their insistence on a clean difference between material & dignity harms, which in practice are interdependent. Same with the insistence on distinguishing “state” & “interpersonal” violence, which in reality are not so easy to separate.

on this day in 2012, 20 children and 6 adults are killed in mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT. And with the awful shooting at Brown University yesterday, we still haven't done anything on meaningful national gun laws. Enough is enough.

This is because the left treats feminism—and particularly feminist critiques of sexuality and sexual exploitation—with contempt, not as a serious and necessary intervention but ad a bourgeois affectation at best and as a betrayal at worst. But you’re not ready for that conversation!!!
Well, there's a photo I never expected to see in my life. Noam Chomsky palling around with Steve Bannon.

“Quiet, Piggy” was one of Trump’s many teachable moments. As Chemaly lays out here, there are a many men looking to learn. open.substack.com/pub/sorayach...
18. "Quiet, Piggy" isn't about Scolding a Reporter. It's About Giving Other Men Permission to Denigrate Women with No Consequences
No wonder 40% of American women would leave the US if they could

Our culture is saturated w/ male emotional expression yet there seems to be near universal agreement that American men are out of touch with their feelings. I suspect this is because ppl are most likely to notice and label feelings they don’t share. Power = objective. Lack of power = subjective.

People talk about the misconception that feminism is about hating men as if that has some explanatory power in why people oppose it, even if implying they do so foolishly. Meanwhile, hating women has few social consequences & even appears to be a requirement for 1 of the 2 major parties in the US.

People respond negatively to feminists and feminism because we make visible the sexism and misogyny they didn't know they had. That's it. There's no PR problem. No better tone to take or level of appeasement that will make the shame bearable. Fight sexism anyway.

We don’t know anything about Utah shooter. Leftist avowals of nonviolence rn only serve to bolster the rightwing definition of what counts as violence: any attempt to hold white male hate mongers accountable. Relentless attacks on our most marginalized is called civil discourse. Don't play along.
