Prof. Frauke von Versen will become the new clinical professor of reproductive medicine/gynecological endocrinology. Her research focuses on the causes of different maternal and neonatal outcomes after assisted reproduction, factors in reproductive and vascular aging, and endometriosis.

Prof. Dr. Dr. Cristina Granziera will become the new Clinical Professor of Translational Imaging. Her research focuses on understanding the pathophysiological mechanisms of neuroinflammatory, neurodegenerative, and cerebrovascular diseases.

The University Council has appointed Prof. Dr. Mira Katan Kahles as Clinical Professor of Neurology, with an appointment at University Hospital Basel. Her scientific focus lies in neurological and neurovascular diseases, with a particular emphasis on biomarker-based precision medicine.

Prof. Bence György aims to treat blindness-causing diseases using a precision gene editing tool, called base editing. One of the aims of the project is to create improved ways of rewriting genes in patients’ retinas in a targeted manner, without undesirable side effects.

In her ERC project, @kellervalsecchi.bsky.social is investigating the evolution of dosage compensation in the animal kingdom. As the project examines both sexes of different animal species, it promises new insights into differences between males and females with regard to gene regulation mechanisms.

Together with his research team, @flaviodonato82.bsky.social will investigate how nerve cells in the hippocampus interact and how they regulate whether memories exist in a stable or malleable state. The findings may broaden our understanding of conditions such as anxiety and learning difficulties.

In his ERC project, computer scientist @ivandokmanic.bsky.social will work with his team on new AI building blocks to make AI for science more efficient, stable and easy to interpret. The team then aims to put them to use to model complex systems across domains: in bioimaging and in Earth science.
