I approve. This was mine yesterday. I think the barista might have been flirting.

An unusual Friday night activity: touring the British Museum led by the lovely and infectiously enthusiastic @sachacoward.bsky.social. He even signed out books!

I had a nice stay at Hotel Barcelona Princess. It's in the Diagonal Mar area, which is a bit away from the old town, but it's on a decent metro line and near the beach. A really good views from the bar to Sagrada Família and the rooftop pool and sundeck was rather good.

And you should always reward good behaviour.

A bracing walk round #MileEndWard in search of a coffee. Many of my usuals are still on holiday, but The Coffee Room is open.

Just finished watching #StrangerThings. That was brutal. I’m not ashamed to admit that it had me in tears several times. A story that took a decade to tell. Here’s to the Duffer Brothers for creating such an amazing world!

And @lner.co.uk starts the holiday celebrations 🥂

Also, floofy post-swim hair.

I did a swim (first in a long time) and I’m reinforcing my good behaviour.

So I only bought one thing in this year’s Black Friday/Cyber Monday retail nonsense, and it’s pretty neat. No, it’s not a vape.

You’d hardly believe it’s November

Spent a rewarding hour last night helping collect signatures for a petition to get TfL to take over the Greenwich and Woolwich lifts, which are sadly neglected by the local council. All the people we met were so happy that someone was trying to do something about it.

Spent this morning going through more of my possessions, working out what has survived. It’s so sad to see the damage to those things with memories attached to them — memories from my childhood, my time in the navy, university. 😢

Ouch. Might have been better to unscrew the cycle bollards before commencing work at Mile End Junction. Reversing heavy machinery over them risks damaging the bollards and their foundations. If they are left damaged, I hope TfL/LBTH sends Thames Water the bill for the repairs.

Eastend Homes: “The leaks were dealt with when they happened and are isolated to one area.  Mitigations are in place to minimise further problems.”

Does this look minimised?
November 1, 2025 at 12:54 PM
It’s more than two years since Eastend Homes’ disastrous attempt to build flats on our flats resulted in our homes being flooded. Our homes are still being ruined. We still haven’t an explanation for how this meets building regulations. It’s like nothing was learned from #RonanPoint or #Grenfell.

I should probably write something more long-form, but my experience cycling to Amsterdam was so much less stressful than I thought it’d be. Only sketchy bit was working out how to get between the station and the ferry with a bike in Harwich.

Obligatory photo of a traditional Dutch windmill.

And now in another city, Leiden, grabbing a spot of lunch and more caffeine before the push to Amsterdam.
October 16, 2025 at 11:30 AM
So after a nice easy cycle from the ferry to Rotterdam, it’s time for some coffee and cake.
