Kelly Drive in Fairmount Park has been engineered to remove most pedestrian crossings and amenities, to speed up traffic.

A thread with 8 examples of things that have been lost, with historical images. South to north.

1. A staircase from the river trail to the Girard Ave Bridge, and Brewerytown:
A street view image showing how there's no pedestrian crossing near a staircase that's poorly maintained. A historical image of a pedestrian path leading up to the Girard Ave Bridge.

Fairmount should be accessible to all, and it’s extra disappointing that we had better pedestrian access but the city hasn’t maintained it. Thank you for compiling this historical evidence.

Please consider signing Philly Bike Action‘s petition for a safer park.

Abolish the Pennsylvania state senate. A unicameral, proportional legislature is more efficient and egalitarian.

This is the main image Friends of Spruce and Pine has on their homepage: a car turning into a bike lane (that is filled with vehicles thanks to the illegal loading) while a child on a bike tries to cross the street.

They are suing the city for adding loading zones and improving bike safety.

If Philly had just door dashers on bikes at the same rate as SF, it would remove more than 1 million vehicle miles from our streets per month.

The costs in extra traffic delays and increased road maintenance are easily in the tens of millions.

Today I almost got run over by a car who couldn’t see me in the crosswalk, thanks to this van.

I didn't realize GB could take monthly donations - I thought it was only for one-time donations - so thanks for the heads up!

No, it's not hard to go out and buy native seed packs... after you research what's native (actually native, not just commonly found after being introduced), what's easy to grow (no cold stratification required), find a shop with your local ecotype, etc. This project has done that work for you! 🙌

This! Project! Is! Working!

Thank you SO much to @hungryhookfarm.bsky.social for donating seeds so we can diversity our seed packs!

If you haven’t already, follow artist @megstampede.bsky.social who designed these posters.

We’ve distributed 2000 seed packs to Philadelphians so far!!!

LFG.
Sarah has three posters on her desk one has bee balm, one has milkweed and one has purple cone flour on top of the posters that are laid out on her desk. She has six jars all of which have different kinds of seeds in each jar. She’s clearly about to start making a little seed packets, each of the posters says plant native plants on the top and take one and plant on the bottom and learn more with a QR code that leads to a website about plants

"Say the city council decides to cut the budget & only pay for “direct” costs for fighting a fire. They’ll pay for the water in the hose, but not the gas in the truck. They’ll pay the salaries for the firemen, but not for the dispatcher who tells them where to go." Indirect cost cuts end research. 👇

My op-ed below (which is a paper covering a chunk of Appalachia in Ohio) has gotten some attention. It’s not too hard to understand - people support cancer research.

I’m a biomedical researcher who lost his wife to cancer. Finding cures is personal.

Yep. I have a grad degree from a medical school. None of the work I’ve done since graduation, on glioblastoma, cardiac imaging, etc would have been possible without it.
