Last night we had our first D&D session in a few weeks, and it was fantastic! It was a session zero-ish and it was not as smooth as I would have wanted though it was a true glorious mess.

@shawnmerwin.bsky.social Given your early experience with Eberron, which said "everthing in D&D has a place in Eberron" do you think we are seeing the pendulum swing in the other direction where settings will limit classes, species, etc.

An open web technology RSS delivers new posts right to your doombox without everything else that social media provides.

A feed I particularly like is Keith Baker’s website, which includes both Patreon and free posts.

In this day and age of modern social media empires and attention pirates I often have to fight against our demons amongst the doombox to save for doom scrolling.

I am trying to read more dead-tree style content though a good middle ground are RSS readers.

I rewatched Thor (2011) and the movie reminds me how much I enjoyed the cosmic, magical technology feel to the Thor lore.

I would love to have the chance to give my player characters a "hammer forged in the heart of a star".

This is an amazing deal if you're into #ttrpgs www.humblebundle.com/books/roll-b...

It includes some more mainstream games like Savage Worlds and Runequest AND then games like Into the Wildsea and then Sentai and Sensibility.

I recently found the BBC adaption of the Scarlet Pimpernel and Three Musketeers on streaming today. It makes me think about how to design a D&D campaign set in the high renaissance with muskets, rapier duels, politics, and adventure. D&D24 seems to focus more on a rulesets over rules. #dnd #5e

The system got a little clunky as you advanced though I think can see it’s DNA in many modern games like Savage Worlds. I dream about creating an homage someday.

The more I run games, the more I realize that I have specific tropes/themes that work their way into my adventures. For instance, my adventures regardless of genre or system the players often end of up in a library or museum or other cultural institution. Do you have recurring themes/places? #ttrpg

I have overall enjoyed the D&D 2024 refresh though seeing the books coming out I think being a DM will be more about limiting character options than including everything. They are building a tool kit and then the DM will need to choose what to include or not!

I love Keith Baker’s blog in general and I especially love this post about teleportation as it focus’s on how to bind D&D mechanics (e.g. the spell teleportation circle) to your story.

I am very excited to see that the Level Up character builder for #A5E is now in OpenBeta and you can signup for an account. I very happy to see other character builders in the wild for #5e variants as that only opens up #5e more to the community. Thank you #EnPublishing.

Given everything happening in the world there is ever the need for fellowship and community. That is what #DnD and other #ttrpgs are about in end. You and some fellow humans making up stories in their shared humanity. In times like these play more games.

We finished up my last mini series campaign recently and I was very worried it was entirely the wrong direction. The heroes had been caught up in a conspiracy and had to escape a city so not your traditional BBEG fight. It ended up going very well and my players really enjoyed it. #dnd #5e

For reference to my prior post I a played all Games Workshop games before (Warhammer, 4Ok, Mordheim, and Necromunda; I had stopped playing prior to Age of Sigmar).

I am thinking about getting back into wargames for a truly analog hobby away from the #scrollofdoom and after a 2 decade absence. I love the proliferation of small press makers now though I have limited space and limited budget. I am torn between 15 mm or 28 mm skirmish? Any thoughts?

The scheduling demon has captured my regular weekly game the past three weeks though I am hoping we can meet this week to finish up our current campaign miniseries. I have done some “lonely fun” in world building in the interim though, which is its own level of enjoyment.

Picked up the new #DnD Monsters Manual from my FLGS today and the book is gorgeous. As much as I love #digitaltools having the book in hand is a great feeling. The artwork is amazing and I like the new #statblock format. This also came just in time for a #bossfight #Dnd #5e

For the past two years, I have been writing a “Year in Review” focused on TTRPGs for the past year.

It has been a good exercise to think about what I want to engage with in the hobby and any lessons learned over the year.
