My daughter had 8 friends (17 & 18s) over last week & I sat painting in the conservatory while listening to them talk environmental issues, politics, medicine, education etc. They are so considerate of each other & openly discussing mental health. They are so switched on & I’m so proud of them!

Dad’s books are full of empathy, common sense, and a healthy suspicion of the powerful. But at its heart his work is also about how systems keep people poor while pretending it’s their own fault. So I hope Kemi’s taking notes as well as reading the jokes.

I’ve just seen the news about Jane Goodall. I have followed her work since I was a little girl, I always thought she was one of the most beautiful people on the planet, so passionate but so gentle.

Update - She made it through the night! We are quite astounded and fully expected her to have passed but she’s feeding and buzzing. Sadly she can’t walk very well and falls and she can’t fly so it looks like we have a hornet houseguest for the foreseeable.

Me and Phoebe made a new friend. This is Beatrice the Queen Hornet. Sadly she’s likely at the end (I’ve consulted an expert) but we’ve given her some overripe pear and been hand feeding her pear juice all day, we’re still keeping our fingers crossed. #nature #wildlife #pollinators
