My latest “call for action”—this time regarding the Taber Sears #mural in #NewYorkCity Council chambers of #CityHall—in the February 2025 issue of the New Criterion. (Paywall) #publicart #CityBeautiful #conservation #preservation newcriterion.com/article/muni...

No. As I understand it, it’s the person who’s been overseeing GSA collections for a number of years—an actual professional who cares about the art. Fingers crossed.

Informing people that my work exists, and is relevant to various kinds of issues that interest some people. I have used social media for education and advocacy purposes (monuments, public art), but it’s much harder to do that now, I find, esp on this site. I don’t think many see my posts anyway.

On a positive note, I’ve just seen notice (from a week ago) that the Fine Arts Specialist for the GSA is returning to work there. Of course now there is the shutdown, but still, someone will be paying attention.

If you care about #NewDeal #art, socially conscious art, #BenShahn, or federal #architecture #history, read this story. A flood of complaints, on the record, can’t hurt. #Academicsky

The New Deal Masterpieces Threatened by Trump’s D.C. Downsizing
Your great-grandparents paid Ben Shahn and Philip Guston to create gorgeous public murals. Next year they could be rubble.

Hey everyone, @yusuketrade.bsky.social is impersonating a Princeton grad student and posting some vile right-wing garbage in their name, so please do the world a favor and report and block @yusuketrade.bsky.social

I didn’t rank him the first go-around, finding him to have been untrustworthy and quixotic as Borough President. Still, it’s sad—lost possibilities. Apart from bad apples, there were some good people working for him. Good luck to them.

A painting to usher in the weekend—and perhaps provide a tiny bit of solace: Vincent van Gogh's 1889 "View of Arles, Flowering Orchards," from collection of Neue Pinakothek, Munich www.sammlung.pinakothek.de/en/artwork/R...
Painting of three trees, with landscape seen through spaces between them, including orchard and view of a walled city

I walked a mile to get mine. Worth it.

Got COVID vax at Walgreens on Broadway (Astoria). Mother with kids ahead of me. Walk-in or online appointment. Got same-day appointment. Very easy.

Modest mention of heroic work. #monuments #statues #conservation #ArtsandAntiquities #Urbanism+ #NewYorkCity @nycparks.bsky.social

From the newsletter of the Department of Arts and Antiquities @nycparks.bsky.social , (which never seems to mention the amazing #conservation work and #publicart programming done by #JonathanKuhn and team). The latter also here celebrates the amazing #PhyllisCohen, deserving of a medal.
