Love these!
Turtleheads (Chelone spp.), in bloom now, are native perennials in rich woodlands that open up to a bit of sun or on the edges of streams and seeps. It is a larval host plant for the Baltimore Checkerspot butterfly. It is also very popular with bees. This is Chelone glabra. #nativeplants

A great talent! We listened to his songs doing the dishes many years ago.
My last living musical hero is still my hero but unfortunately no longer living. RIP to the great, great Mr. Tom Lehrer.

An amazing #nativetree that blooms in the summer. Plus gorgeous fall color.
One of our summer-blooming trees is sourwood (Oxydendrum arboreum), native from north GA into the upper Coastal Plain and along the western edge. Beloved by bees, sourwood nectar makes wonderful honey for beekeepers willing to make the effort to collect it at the right time. (1/2) #nativeplants

Attract a combination of visitors with this one plant.
If you want to invite hummingbirds and butterflies into your garden, look no further than the Louisiana-native Buttonbush (Cephalanthus occidentalis). It’s beautiful and thrives in rain gardens, soggy spots as well as in average garden soil!

Love to see community gardens planting #nativeplants to support the pollinators for their veggies. Monarda fistulosa, wild bergamot, was popular with the bumbles.

Our veterans deserve better.

Check out the GNPS symposium on Saturday and hear #mysistertheresister talk about the time she fought the lawn and the lawn lost -- and how it turned into a statewide victory in MD. We'll discuss some takeaways we learned from confronting outdated HOA policy. #nativeplants gnps.org/2025-georgia...

Incredibly common in my area and so overlooked!
Striped wintergreen (Chimaphila maculata), also called Pipsissewa, is a tiny evergreen plant in the Pyrolaceae family. Native to northern Georgia (Piedmont area and north), it's occasionally found in the Coastal Plain. It may pop up in suburban landscapes, a remnant of wild landscapes. #nativeplants
