Dad’s books are full of empathy, common sense, and a healthy suspicion of the powerful. But at its heart his work is also about how systems keep people poor while pretending it’s their own fault. So I hope Kemi’s taking notes as well as reading the jokes.

Remember Pat Cash saying in an interview that he used to use squash for training, especially if it was wet out. Said he turned up at a squash club and asked for somebody good to play with and they produced this old, fat guy who ran him absolutely ragged all around the court whilst barely moving.

Our bin collections have just been reduced to once every three weeks and visits to the tip are by pre-booked appointment only. Nobody knows why fly-tipping is such a problem.

So this morning I completed my personal tax return, because I'm too cheap to pay my accountant to do it for me!
