I don't know where you get this information from.
Of course, people were restricted. That's the nature of dictatorship. But they did not object. In Nazi Germany, Jews and other vulnerable groups were targeted in civilian life or jailed. For the majority, living conditions improved

In Belarus, a few years ago, 30% were on the streets, peacefully demonstrating. The government used violent force and after a few weeks, the uprising was contained.

The Last Generation climate movement was based on this theory.

It failed.

I can tell you from my experience in 1989, when we overthrow communist dictatorship in East Germany. There were ca. 10% on the streets and it only worked, because the government did not use violent force (in most cases).

Die USA sind eher noch weiter rechts als die Allgemeinheit in Sachsen. Da ist ein Generalstreik möglicherweise eine Illusion. Wenn die Opposition zu schwach ist, hat die Demokratie schlechte Chancen.

Das sollten sie sein. Aber da lag es eben an den Eltern, ob die alles mitmachten oder auch mal dagegen hielten. Ich entsinne mich noch, dass meine Eltern dort eher Anweisungen von der Schule bekamen oder ausgeschimpft wurden, wenn etwas nicht lief.

It's fascinating.

Just for telling some Americans, that they are in deep trouble, I have received dozens of blocks.

They don't want to see the reality.

It's a factor for the success of the dictatorship, that people just cannot believe it could happen to them. They wake up when it's too late.
