Families belong together. Kilmar should be with his wife and children, not in ICE detention or deported to another country.

Although this is not a state legislative activity, Kilmar is a Maryland resident and a member of our ally -- CASA.

Our UU faith promotes and affirms the values of justice, equity, and compassion in human relations. We believe that everyone who lives in Maryland should be able to live a life without fear, regardless of race, creed, national origin, sexual orientation, or immigration status.

"Don quietly drew people into justice work. Try as I might, I don’t recall Don issuing any demands or instructions. He just moved things along, and we stepped in next to him."

The light of Don’s life shone with reason, compassion, and justice.

We honor him.
uulm-md.bsky.social
He also believed that so many of our social ills were stove-pipe issues, regularly reminding his peers that immigration dynamics touch community, county, state, and federal policy frameworks.
uulm-md.bsky.social
We can’t help but conclude that his perspective was shaped by his training as a hydrologist, volunteer work, and his active role in our faith tradition.
uulm-md.bsky.social
Don brought a long-term, intersectional, and strategic perspective to bear with @uusj.bsky.social , River Road UUC, and the UUA’s President’s Council, as well as serving as a supporter of the @aclu.org and CASA among other organizations.
uulm-md.bsky.social
Don was a founding member of @uulm-md.bsky.social from its beginnings in 2005, serving in many capacities from the Board of Directors, to the liaison to the River Road Congregation.
uulm-md.bsky.social
Don was a quiet champion for working across silos in the UU ecosystem and a supporter of our efforts to build a movement for UU advocacy across the federal government and the state of Maryland. He was a steadfast member of UUSJ’s Immigration Action Team.

This legislative session, Maryland was faced with the largest budget challenge since the Great Recession and a new federal administration that threatens our economy.

There is still work to do, but I want to thank our partners in the General Assembly for their hard work over these past 90 days.

Young people! Please help us old people make charts. Lol.

In all seriousness, though. This kind of information is so helpful for those of us (me!) who are trying to move the conversation forward and show how important it is to listen to youth.

In return, we agree to be made fun of in memes. 🩷
