By withdrawing from the UN’s Universal Periodic Review, the U.S. is dodging scrutiny of its human rights record. Rather than engage in dialogue and model transparency, it weakens a system meant to protect us all.

These cuts don’t just mean numbers on a chart. They mean:

- Fewer children vaccinated against preventable illness.

- Less funding for HIV/AIDS treatment.

- Shrinking support for LGBTQI+, migrant, and women’s rights groups on the frontlines.

ODA = Official Development Assistance, also known as “foreign aid.” It’s the funding governments provide to support humanitarian aid and human rights globally.

HRFN projects ODA will fall from $223B in 2023 to $161B by 2026.

That’s a 28% drop.

The briefing warns of a looming $62 billion cut in global foreign aid by 2026. That’s money that sustains life-saving programs worldwide.
