First ear of corn, first time successfully growing it! Lots more to come, but we ate this one as soon as we picked it. Also, experimenting more with wool as mulch. Very successful around my carrots and celery, but with the heat we just had here I decided to try it on more beds. #vegetablegardening 🌱

A summer salad straight from the garden! Purple potatoes are so vibrant. Other garden ingredients— tomatoes (big boy beefsteak and fourth-of-July), basil, broccoli, kale, collards, beet greens, and non-purple potatoes. #vegetablegardening 🌱

Garlic harvest! About 55 heads— hopefully enough to last me until next year, plus enough to plant in the fall. Some bigger than others. Interestingly, the ones I side-dressed with dried kelp did the best! 🌱 #vegetablegardening

First tomato of the season! The “Fourth of July” tomatoes were true to their name. Amazing how much better they taste compared to store-bought! 🌱 #vegetablegardening

Finally fencing in my garden expansion. Lots of digging out rocks so we can bury the bottom of the fence and get the posts in the ground. Going to use this area for corn, beans, and squash. Trying out the “Three Sisters”! 🌱 #vegetablegardening

Turnips for lunch! Growing these for the first time this season, and we are really enjoying them— and the greens are a new favorite as well. 🌱 #vegetablegardening

Lots happening in the garden! Broccoli is forming heads, garlic has scapes, another perfect carrot, and lots of wild strawberries (technically not in our garden, but all over the yard). #vegetablegardening 🌱

Today’s harvest- our first carrot of the season, radishes, kale, collards, arugula, lettuce, beet greens, sage, and oregano. And check out the baby tomatoes on my “Fourth of July” tomato plant. They might actually live up to their name! Also sampled a few peas in the garden. #vegetablegardening 🌱

We have a turnip! First time growing them, and I probably should have let it get bigger— but we were just so excited! #vegetablegardening 🌱

More wool mulch! When I picked up some free sheep manure from a local farm, they had a big pile of discarded wool. Adding it to the tops of my tomato / carrot beds in the hoop house as I harvest the radishes. So colorful! Curious how it will work out. #vegetablegardening 🌱

Spring garden is in full swing! The “Fourth of July” tomato in the hoop house is already flowering— I snagged a bunch of discarded wool roving and mulched around it as an experiment. Icicle radishes are doing very well, potatoes are big and bushy, lettuce is lush. Not shown: peas flowering.

First tomatoes in the ground! I always plant a few in the hoop house raised beds to get a head start on the growing season. Planted one each of San Marzano, 4th of July, Pink Brandywine, and Super Beef. All started from seed. Zone 6b / 7a.🌱 #vegetablegardening

The hoop house babies are doing nicely! Collards, bok Choi, lettuce, onions are all growing well. Not shown- arugula, beets, peas, kale, cabbage, carrots, radishes, and parsnips. Also somehow baby Jack-in-the-pulpits! #vegetablegardening 🌱

Some of the tomato babies were potted up again. Experimenting with using their old coconut coir pots as mulch for the top of their new pots. Left them overnight in the hoop house for the first— fingers crossed they do okay! 🌱🍅 #vegetablegardening
