Albertans have been clear that they do not want coal mining in our eastern slopes. Protect our water. Protect our agriculture. Protect our mountains.

Coal mining in the eastern slopes would leave Albertans on the hook to clean up the mess. The environment minister tries convincing us the Mine Financial Security Program is sufficient.

It doesn’t require a mathematician. How is $1.71B in financial security supposed to cover $57.3B in liabilities?

Today I asked the energy minister why the UCP is attempting to use Albertans' money to finance the clean up of oil and gas wells. The minister states he believes in the Polluter Pays principle. If so, why does the government's draft report show otherwise?

We heard from ranchers, fishers, environmentalists, hikers, and landowners whose lives and livelihoods will be negatively impacted by coal mining in the Eastern Slopes.

These voices are in addition to the 14,868+ emails my office has received rejecting the changes to the coal policy since Jan 20th.

Please continue to email and call the Premier and Ministers of Energy and Environment. While you’re at it, call the UCP backbenchers and tell them to scrap this coal policy. Make them hear your voices too!

As a result, for some very high-severity policy areas like child safety, we recently made some short-term moderation choices to prioritize recall over precision.
