Collingswood has joined 8 other towns across NJ in urging New Jersey to pass a #rankedchoicevoting resolution. This suburb in #southjersey is asking for NJ to allow #rcv because it is proven to give voters more choices and ensure the majority of voices are heard.

Great documentary about ranked-choice voting in Portland. In New Jersey, we would use this form of proportional ranked-choice voting for our many multi-winner elections: www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJEK...

You can still pick just one candidate if you want. Ranked-choice voting gives you (optional) backup options.

It’s intended to help encourage more candidates to run and engage and help voters worry less about strategy.

TLDR: yeah

Generally RCV means single winner races (like the House) rather than the senate.

Also, it’s optional like in NSW.

Ranked-choice voting in the US is just a different name for preferential voting. Though the way the US generally implements it (single winner) is closer to Australia than Ireland.

Couldn’t agree more, lots of local elections also have this problem. As a local ranked-choice voting group, here is our take: www.voterchoicenj.org/nj_gubernato...

The NYC commission evaluating RCV decided to not use it in the general by one vote, and with the vote splitting they are headed for in November, it is going to be clear that was a mistake.
