On parlait des alternatives à Discord par plus tard qu'hier : @lacontrevoie.fr lance son service chiffré et décentralisé basé sur Element (Matrix) (ping @mewsse.pet & @zicklag.dev)

Also do note that I was getting bad grades at school in English exams, so my thread may or may not contains badly worded phrases and/or numerous grammatical errors. I'm sorry about this 🙏 take care!

Hope I've added enough context to why it's not as simple as it may looks. People in the space are always looking for better way to handle moderation, while trying to abide by local laws, users understanding, users protection, free speech (which is varying by countries laws) and core values.
velvetshadow.fr
So that's it, that's my xp sharing about the matter. For nothing in the world would I accept to be a moderator for a public facing network again. You may think a small *cough* millions users is a breeze to handle, but let's check the post volume from the firehose to despair in the process.

... that's why it's named "assisted moderation". The thing evolve with your actions, recognizing patterns, moderation evaders, signals a human could have missed. It act fast and pretty well. It's not perfect but better than the rest. It's not generative A.I., & is far less complex or power hungry.
velvetshadow.fr
So you switch to machine learning. Oh boy does this one produce false positives but hey, it is kind of working so let's go. Then you heard about A.I. assisted moderation. Low false positive rates. Tanking most of the worst horrors for the humans. Still need humans to act on some scenarios but...

But let's say, when we reached the cap, that instead of outsourcing to cheap and neglected workforce, you chose the technical option. You set up filters, CMS for reports, algorithms that can do the most before a human is involved. You'll ultimately reach the cap again.
velvetshadow.fr
Why abroad? Labor is cheaper. Labor laws in some countries are non-existant. They'll handle it! Hundred and hundred of mods that will NOT complain about the horrors. That will digest the pain and the mental toll of moderating a public space on the web. META did it, so you can too!
velvetshadow.fr
It WILL take your sanity away. There is so much that a human can tank until its mental health is at risk. So, you're scaling up your mod team. Labor is not cheap. You grow until the aforementioned cap when it's not longer possible. So you start to outsource. First to a third party, then abroad.
velvetshadow.fr
Hey! I may chime in on this. Not to take a side on the matter, but as it was part of my job I do know "some" stuff about content moderation. It's humanly feasible until you reach some cap. But let's talk about this human side. Horrors. A constant feed of horrors beyond what you could imagine.
