Subgroup errors of 10+ points can flip conclusions about electoral coalitions, policy support, or partisan divides. Our study with @gelliottmorris.com, Ben Leff and @peterenns.bsky.social shows that synthetic samples risk misleading researchers on exactly the questions where accuracy matters most.

In our latest synthetic sampling analysis, neither additional information nor more recent LLMs improve the accuracy of the LLM results. For Trump approval, all models with additional info performed worse than the original model. GPT-5 + the most information was the least accurate.

“How do Americans plan for their parents’ care?” is asked by @areysoc.bsky.social from Cornell.

Answer: 28% say they’d have a parent move in with them. But preferences shift by income, race, education, and gender.

At #JSM2025 by @amstatnews.bsky.social, researchers added questions to our omnibus survey. Miguel Fudolig asked: How much do people trust AI for health advice? Only 14% “very/extremely” trust AI for health advice; 51% show low/no trust. See the 24 questions asked and the results in the report.
