The study, based on GGS @ggp.bsky.social & ESS @ess-survey.bsky.social, shows that young people all over EU consider it ideal to start to cohabit, marry, and become parents during their 20s but, on average, experience these events later than their ideal timeline.
🚻Country & gender diff. persist.

Entry into adulthood is being postponed, but when do young adults intend and deem ideal to experience events? 💭A joint work w/ K. Schwanitz @utu.fi, @francescorampazzo.com & @agnese-vitali.bsky.social reveals mismatches btw ideals and reality ⬇️:

Honored to be part of the team of writers behind the @unfpa.org State of the World Population 2025 report.

The real fertility crisis: The most consequential reproductive decision a person can make –when, whether and with whom to have a child– is being undermined by a set of barriers and obstacles

UNFPA @unfpa.org · Jun 10
💶 Cost of parenthood
📉 Job insecurity
🏠 Housing

Why would people choose to have children if they can't afford them?

It's time we address #TheRealFertilityCrisis.

Let @unfpa.org—the #UnitedNations sexual and reproductive health agency—explain how: unf.pa/rfc
A card with watercolour illustrations in shades of blue, brown and green on a white background depicting large leaves around the edges and, in the centre, a man and pregnant woman facing each other and touching their foreheads together. Black text overlaid reads “39% of people say that finances did or would limit their ability to achieve their desired family size. A first systematic description of the age at self-disclosure and coming out for LGB individuals across Europe. While the age of coming out is decreasing, substantial country-level variation persists, with higher ages observed in Central Europe. www.demographic-research.org/articles/vol...
