3K followers introduction! 🧵

I'm an independent science communicator; I'm a co-founder, creator, trainer, and strategist. I'm a freelancer fortunate enough to make things I like with people I like : )

(there's a lot of evil laughter in this thread, I just realized as I was about to post 😇)
a man in a white shirt and black shorts is standing in front of a brick house .
Alt: Napoleon Dynamite from the movie of that name: a man in a white shirt and black shorts standing in front of a brick house awkwardly waving beyond the camera and saying "HEY" without smiling

If you know a 🦑 🧪 tech nerd in Los Angeles, tell them I have a free ticket I’m trying to give away to a startup showcase on Tuesday. First come first served!

I’ve attached a pic of my current view, to show what a great deal this is
A picture of my feet on a nondescript floor. I’m currently in a hotel lobby. My statement about the view is a joke

My co-founder @rejectedbanana.bsky.social and I have had a running text thread about it all day

And now it’s time to get back to work. We’ll just have to make it, and prove that better is possible 💪

Me, a CEO at a value-driven company, reading this after being told by multiple startup programs that they “don’t know what to do with us” 😬
A post by halophoenix that does not allow quotes so I won’t tag them (so they can remain mention-free). It says: “I am desperately asking people to stop fawning over CEOs in general, even when they make things you like.

If this tech ecosystem should show you anything, it’s that these companies build products. They have no interest in communities, safety, or justice in any sense.

*They do not have values.*”

This is not sci-fi

I wasn’t sure though until I got to the last post that’s like “heyyyyyy Australia ✌️😘”

"The power on campus is out. The buildings are all locked down and there's no access."

"There's a 4.56 billion year old asteroid fragment in my office that needs to be on an international flight tonight."

This trip was not starting smoothly 🤨

We don't have a link/webpage to share, but I'm happy to connect you to the folks responsible for developing those lessons! [email protected]

Just ran across this article and I am flipping tables. The headline/lede come from women doing only 1.6x more than men now, compared to 1.8x 20 years ago

But men are doing "feminine" things (cleaning, laundry)- *that* is the progress

Am I being too negative???

www.sciencenews.org/article/marr...
Married men are doing more cleaning and laundry than in the past
Some scholars argue that efforts to equalize the time men and women spend on housework has stalled. An analysis reveals slow progress.

Getting ready for a presentation about Skype a Scientist, so I was crunching the numbers on what we've done this year & no wonder I'm tired.

Philly event attendees: 433
Zines distributed: 5,900
Seed packets distributed: 10,000
Online event attendees: 1,355
Classrooms matched w/scientists: 3,488
A ppt slide that says "weaving science into everyday" with 6 examples, including "getting coffee, at a street festival, trick or treating, on the road, at a community meeting, at the corner bar" and each of those has a picture associated like a squid zine at coffee, a table of squid stuff with a man dressed as a squid for street festival, squid postcards and candy for trick or treating, the squidmobile for road, me taking in front of people for community meeting, and bar coasters for corner bar

I work w some fossil folks making virtual lessons (I'm the media person, basically capturing what would be in a textbook, but is instead pics and vids for online). Their first lesson is navigation- topo maps, compasses, choosing a route; + geology: soil, veg, etc. Happy to connect you if you like!

I like paid because I have 15, 30, & 60 min links and I coordinate across calendars attached to multiple email addresses (from working with multiple clients). I'm not sure if free can do all this

It's one of the easiest tools I pay for- not that much, makes my life SO much easier, integrated w Zoom

I am *fascinated* by the neuro research/dopamine release aspect of your work. Can you please elaborate a little? (or do you discuss it in your book?)
vgwschutte.bsky.social
Just a reminder to use alt text- these are GORGEOUS and I would much rather share them with your description attached. I don't like how it feels like claiming some kind of ownership to add in a description of my own on share

You can flip a switch to have Bluesky remind you to use alt before posting

This will be an essential resource, and my hope is that it makes it easier for academics who are called to public scholarship as a way to fight the encroaching darkness.

At a time where it feels like we're losing, we need to remember our victories that not only have happened in the past, but continue to exist today.

Thus I give you, California Condor 926 of the SoCal flock.

Great grandchild of Condor # 1.

We as humanity can still do good things.

Vaccine reminder *for adults*: get your immunity checked! I no longer had immunity to measles (!!!) or hepatitis, so I just got boosters

My doctor ordered titer tests on my annual blood draw- no extra work (or blood) required from me

UHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH has anyone been on a .gov website yet today?

How many of them are like this??
A screenshot of hud.gov, with the screen dimmed and a popup that says "The Radical Left are going to shut down the government and inflict massive pain on the American people unless they get their $1.5 trillion wish list of demands. The Trump administration wants to keep the government open for the American people." with a close button at the bottom. A screenshot of hud.gov after clicking the close button on that popup, and it has a giant red banner at the top with white text on it that says "The Radical Left are going to shut down the government and inflict massive pain on the American people unless they get their $1.5 trillion wish list of demands. The Trump administration wants to keep the government open for the American people."

🦑🧪 Job doing fieldwork (on ships) with Viking Cruises. Full-time position = ? Salary = ?

I usually don't post without more detail, but the job market is weird right now! And this would be a fun fit for someone, and I'm not sure if it'll hit the usual job feeds

#InclusiveSciComm folks (in the ISCS sphere): this would be a symposium year, but instead they're doing listening sessions in a few hours & a few weeks

If their emails slipped through your inbox, DM me for signup links (I haven't seen them shared here and I don't mess with possible security issues)
