Local officials charged with administering the country’s social safety net said changes in Republicans’ One Big Beautiful Bill Act will tax an already strained system.
County officials say they lack resources to handle Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill
Changes to social services are likely to increase administrative work, and counties will shoulder the burden in several states.

President Trump’s sweeping domestic policy law fundamentally alters how food stamps are funded. Some states warn that the entire SNAP program is at risk of being eliminated if legislatures cannot come up with their share.
States Grapple With Fundamental Change in Food Stamps
Whether states can find the money in their budgets — billions of dollars in some cases — will have wide-ranging, and likely uneven, consequences for some 42 million recipients.

Understanding government effectiveness starts with collecting the data. Hard not to see this as the Administration anticipating that they will want to hide the impact of their policy actions from the public.

Congress must act to protect government accountability.

The Administration acknowledged that it will stop the survey that measures food insecurity, just as tariffs push up food prices and the deep cuts to food assistance enacted in July start to take effect. Congress must intervene to save these vital data. www.wsj.com/economy/trum...

In 2024, #SNAP, SSI, the #ChildTaxCredit, housing vouchers, and #Medicaid lifted millions out of poverty, but the harmful Republican megabill and Trump Administration plans cut/would cut them, taking food, housing, and income support from millions. www.cbpp.org/blog/analyzi...

Black unemployment rates are the canary in the coal mine and Black women are feeling the negatives of what’s likely coming first. My @centeronbudget.bsky.social colleague @gbenga-ajilore.bsky.social explains.

Data shows us that Black women are disproportionately impacted by federal workforce cuts.

Why is this the case? CBPP Chief Economist @gbenga-ajilore.bsky.social provides analysis on the August #JobsReport released this morning. www.youtube.com/shorts/3R8t4...

NEW: Congressional Budget Office analysis of who wins and loses in the GOP megabill.

Top 10% gets $13,600 a year (2.7% increase in income)

Bottom 10% *loses* $1,200 a year (3.1% drop in income)

This isn't shared sacrifice--it's class warfare.

Our analysis of new information from CBO today: The harmful Republican megabill will result in about 4 million people, including 1 million kids, seeing their food assistance terminated or cut substantially. Some states could even end #SNAP entirely.

We do know what works & the new Exec Order not just allowing but incentivizing communities to actively harm people ISN’T IT!

Helping people pay rent & giving them access to support services ends homelessness. We must protect people and join the fight against this inhumanity.
annakbailey.bsky.social
We all want to live in communities where all our neighbors have a safe place to call home and are treated with dignity. But yesterday, Pres. Trump issued an executive order that will worsen #homelessness and punish people simply for being poor and unhoused. This is wrong.
