As someone rightfully pointed out in the thread, the Europeans learnt it from us. Australia has a mandatory detention policy since 1992 but shamefully we’ve had “offshore processing” (or regional processing in Asia) since at least the end of the Vietnam War.
You know why European countries are so quiet about the El Salvador situation? Because they started the normalisation of extraterritorial detention of migrants and asylum seekers, often without any due process. The UK’s Rwanda plan. Italy’s attempted plan with Albania. And some still want to do it.

My to do list tomorrow is long and it all hinges on if it is still awful weather. I have set my alarm for 5am that is how behind in life I am.
