This is what fascism provides. A mask that is your true face. A wall between you and the other that allows you to communicate without ever being asked to listen. A face without responsibility, reciprocity or sociality. A way to completely refuse your own inner life

The argument that decadence causes the fall is just protestant work ethic with a healthy dose of British style homophobia, it is not decadence it the inability to enjoy anything other than power itself, not decadence but aesthetics-as-domination

They did it with the War on Drugs, the PIC, with Iraq and Gaza. They will stoke your outrage out of power and plead their political helplessness in it. The Democrats are a core part of this regime. Dems have been in power over and over and over these last 20 years. The trajectory never changed

Obviously history is always weirder and wilder than we can anticipate though, and I dont think its wrong to consider! Definitely necessary to resist the "orange man bad" thesis!

I was arguing last year that the worst case scenario was a counter coup where a Vance-Newsom bipartisan unity govt was put in place. But events have moved such that the kind of unified fascist populace is nowhere near as available

It certainly has already saved us AND the emergence of Vance doesnt undo the damage already done to the coalition and the mvmt. If he died January 22nd, 2025 that would've been a disaster. Now his shambling corpse may be the only thing holding his popular base together

Eh I don't really agree but even if Vance somehow has actual organizational acuity the joy of the thing happening and the pleasure everyone will feel will be extremely important and valuable
