A very clear video of the societal impact of dismantling NIH and NSF. However, I would not be that US centered. These new breakthroughs may still happen, but the patents won’t be in the US, they will be own by China, EU or any other country, in some cases by scientists that were in the US…

"This could be the difference whether your child gets cancer. Are you willing for them to die because the therapy for them is delayed?"

Powerful video with voices from top US scientists on the very real and devastating impacts of the funding cuts.

Rajae’s latest work from our lab adds new light on the neuroendocrine mechanisms by which Kiss1 neurons control energy balance🚨

Dropping our latest preprint 🚨 We show that arcuate Kiss1 neurons act as melanocortin sensitive regulators of BAT thermogenesis through a glutamate dependent Leptr/CART pathway from the DMH to the RPa. @victor-navarro.bsky.social

Melanocortin-responsive Kiss1 neurons of the arcuate nucleus drive energy expenditure through glutamatergic signaling to the dorsomedial hypothalamus. https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2025.06.25.661567v1

Let’s get the word out about the importance of federal funding of curiosity -driven science
We all have similar stories to share

This is the way to do it.

Europe’s choice is clear.

To put science at the heart of its economy.

To become the home of scientific freedom and collaboration.

And to welcome talent from all over the world.

I’m glad to present the first elements of our Choose Europe Initiative.

Drawing the mind, one neuron at a time: A 2022 book walks readers through the life and work of Santiago Ramón y Cajal, the Spaniard whom many consider the founder of modern #neuroscience.

Check out the #ScienceBooks Review on #WorldBookDay: scim.ag/3RvHDmQ
Cajal’s rendering of a Purkinje neuron found in the human cerebellum captures the beauty and intricacy of this complex cell.

While this stand on values and principles at Harvard is needed, it makes the freeze (or termination) of the $9B in federal funding more likely, with the consequences that that would have all of us doing science within the Harvard community. We can only hope for the best.

“If large numbers of academics working in the U.S. do decide to leave, Gold doubts other countries will be able to absorb them all. The end result, he warns, could be an exodus of talent from global science. “My biggest fear,” he says, is that “we’re going to lose a cohort of researchers.”” 🧪
Overseas universities see opportunity in U.S. ‘brain drain’
But many U.S.-based scientists seeking to leave may struggle to find positions in countries grappling with funding issues of their own
