lover of all things that don’t give me anxiety. I post frivolities, things that make me happy, Sunday dinner menus, and good memories.
In 2025 I did not eat a single scone. Not one. 2026 has to be more scone-focused. I can’t continue to live like this.
My New Year’s resolution is to read more books, eat more scones, and use more Oxford commas.

30 Dec: Between Christmas and Twelfth Night it is said the Alpine spirit Berchta — her name meaning “bright” or “shining one” — roams the snowy mountains with her a troop of ethereal children, blessing the worthy. Legend says Christmas Roses bloom in the snow wherever she treads.

The whole internet is crashing out over Stranger Things. It’s a pattern. The fans always hate how their favorite shows end. Nothing is ever right. Nothing ever wraps up in a way where we feel satisfied. What if it’s not the writers, but just that we hate saying goodbye? We just hate endings period.

This is Salade Olivier time of year in a lot of cultures. My Slovakian grandmother made this a lot and it was one of my childhood horrors. I’m seeing it all over my different feeds and I still can’t stomach it.

I’m going to watch One Battle After Another today but I’m not feeling optimistic about this one at all. I’m hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

I just watched Bugonia. I don’t know what possessed me. This was truly one of the worst movies I have ever seen and if it gets nominated for a bunch of Oscars I’m going to be so disappointed. I cannot believe Emma Stone shaved her head for that nonsense.

I am excited to talk about my little vacation when I recover, but for now shout out to the baristas at the Starbucks in my hotel who made me medicine balls with such care and compassion and who told me how to make them better at home. Tip - the honey and lemonade go in the milk frother first.

Ugh - you haven’t heard from me because 1. I went on a little vacation and 2. I got sick with some kind of a respiratory illness while on the little vacation. Now I’m home coughing and snotting in bed where I belong.

I honestly wish that Ariana Grande were a permanent cast member on SNL. She is so good and every time she is on there, the show is so much funnier.

I have received 3 jars of unusual jams for Christmas. A jar of marionberry from Oregon, Myrtle from Sardinia, and pawpaw from North Carolina. Everyone who knows me knows I love weird jam so people grab them for me when they travel. I’m excited to give these a try.

You all. My youngest sister is currently at a funeral for a praying mantis, who is in a tiny glass coffin, and there is an exotic dancer dressed in a praying mantis costume who has been hired to entertain the mourners and before you accuse me of making this up, I promise you I am not that creative.

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but no one you know needs a cup, a mug, a tumbler, a thermos, or anything to drink out of, hot or cold, this holiday season.

I’m all excited because tomorrow I’m going to a Christmas concert and then to dinner at an Italian restaurant that has the best salad and a great take on eggplant parm. I will be wearing some festive plaid for sure.

Ok so my relative who asked me what I wanted for Christmas bought me the thing I said I wanted and it arrived today because they wanted me to enjoy it sooner!!! I now have a fancy German milk frother! ☕️

Last night at the end of a Christmas event an elderly lady offered to drive me to my car in her golf cart, so of course I said yes and the lady sounded exactly like Julia Child. At the end I asked her if she was having fun driving and she matter of factly replied: NO. In her Julia Child voice.

Sunday dinner menu - chicken sandwiches with lettuce and tomato on Hawaiian rolls, oven fries with yogurt chive horseradish dip, baked beans, pickles, gingerbread men for dessert.

Someone in my family asked me what I wanted for Christmas and for the first time in my life I straight up told them the specific thing I’d like to receive that I’d actually use and enjoy. I wonder if I will get it? We shall see if this strategy works.

Today I took a boat to a small island accessible only by water, hiked, enjoyed the fresh air and sunshine and then went out to lunch for what has to be the best, freshest, local hogfish I’ve ever had. When I tell you this fish was good I say it with REVERENCE.

Ok hear me out- I made a savory yogurt bowl. Yogurt and fruit and granola is fine, but a non sweet version is unexpectedly amazing. Plain Greek yogurt, a pile of roasted potatoes, tons of chives, chopped tomato, cucumber, dill, plenty of salt and pepper, drizzle of olive oil. This was SPECTACULAR.

I am now at the age where someone I went to middle school with is the town Santa Claus and this is definitely not the start of a new hallmark movie. 🎅🏻

Visited a children’s hospital today where my daughter participated in a Thanksgiving parade and sang to the kids. It was a very proud moment for me, but also very sobering. It changes your perspective to see toddlers going through chemo smiling bc your daughter is singing Frozen songs to them.

I asked my daughter to make the Thanksgiving menu this year and this is what she came up with. I think it’s pretty legit. I love how she specified that she did not want a homemade apple pie. 😂

Sunday dinner menu - cottage pie, green salad, baked apples.

Last night my daughter(15 yrs) told me that her friend group always keeps extra spots open at their lunch table in case other students don’t have anyone to sit with. If they see someone they invite them to their table. Definitely one of my proudest moments as a mom.
