Sorry for the radio silence the last few weeks. It’s been a rough few weeks in education, especially in Texas, for obvious reasons. Times like these make me glad I’m not a frequent social media user.

I doubt the bigoted politicians care about semantics. We know it’s really just the things that make THEM uncomfortable. It’s easier to target minority groups than deal with any real problems.

It’s dystopian for sure. I’m setting up a first aid kid and training my students on how to administer their own first aid. And I’m calling any trans students by their last name to avoid deadnaming them. All in the name of ‘parents rights’ my ass.

The list of things inappropriate to include in art is now: Guns, drugs, alcohol, gang signs, gore, violence, and now, sexual or gender identity.

So now for open house I have to hide the artwork of any child who chose to incorporate their identity in their ‘about me’ artworks. Fuck Texas.

The new Texas education laws have me really crashing out.

I can’t call students anything but their legal name (including nicknames).

I can’t give them bandages when they are bleeding. I can’t with this state.

I just want to teach art and let kids be themselves.

Right? I doubt the dark belly would be noticeable in the fossil either. Wish we had a way to see the past and learn more about where things come from.
