Better than agreeing to disagree with facts, look into it yourself. Clearly someone has misled you if you believe EVs are impractical in colder climates. Yes, there are challenges/disadvantages but none that can't be mitigated, look at Norway.

Combustion is inherently inefficient compared to electrification though. You'll burn through your fuel much quicker just trying to heat the cabin in your scenario than an EV will exhaust its battery running a heat pump. Of course this is offset by the fact you can carry more fuel in the first place.

I wouldn't take Toyota's word for anything these days. So far behind in battery tech they'll push any narrative that extends ICE for a few years longer.

Hmm, I'm the one using "very specific scenarios" here? I would have fully charged at home so my EV would cope just fine with that... What if you had a 4 hour detour in your hybrid and the detour didn't have a gas station on the way and you ran out of fuel? See, totally impractical those hybrids :)

That's not how most hybrids work. Engines are used to drive the car forward once the battery is drained. What you're talking about is an EREV, these are starting to appear in China at the moment.

According to this most engines don't like to be idle for more than about 10 minutes hrcounselblog.com/how-long-car...

Particularly if you're already up to temperature keeping the heat pump running in an EV it would take many hours to meaningfully impact range.

The question of how long a car engine can safely idle is a common one, often pondered by drivers in various situations. From waiting in a parking lot to

That heat is a waste product of inefficient combustion. An EV can run its heat pump for literally days while stationary. A few hours is not going to drain all your range. Meanwhile, most engines don't like to be idled for more than about 20 mins & ICE is extremely inefficient in stop/start traffic..
December 4, 2025 at 9:42 AM
Huh? Why would you need to do that in an EV? Because it consumes battery? You mean just like the heater in a hybrid consumes fuel too? What a weird comment.

People actually like this movie?, in our house it's "the Alien movie we do not speak of"... well unless it's to talk about the PS1 video game as that's kinda cool.

Funny how Google used to turn a blind eye to adblockers when it was small sites suffering, now small sites are gone, Youtube is wall to wall ads and they're going out their way to prevent adblocking.. 🤔

Probably the best on the DS, cracking game and one that really used the hardware in inventive ways.
