Ugh, how depressing. That's about it as far as what I am aware of, but I wasn't paying super close attention. I think there were a few language-focused TT jobs (Emory), but there was basically nothing.

Also, LinkedIn clearly not at all designed for the vagaries of the academic job market. There were maybe been four TT jobs in my field this year. And no, LinkedIn, just because the job title is the same, I am NOT qualified to teach marketing at a business school.

Instead of taking all afternoon to refamiliarize myself with opencv and futzing around until I got everything structured correctly, it was 20 minutes of easy work.

This is where I am at. It cuts through so much stuff that I would otherwise put off for taking too much time in such a satisfying way. The other day I needed a script to preprocess some images from a strangely formatted scan of an old woodblock edition.

I get WAY fewer complaints from students when I give them a bad grade because they simply didn't do the work. If they get a bad grade because they got something wrong, then I really need to be prepared for a discussion.

Even as someone trained in the US system, teaching in Europe for three years completely borked my approach to grading. It took a few semesters back in the US before I was able to get back into the swing of things.
