He's allowed to make a single bad pass 😅 Out with ACL. Came back and almost immediately got injured for month(s) again. Returned again and have played 2-3 games, one of which was v good imo. He's obviously not up to speed, it's physically impossible. Making definitive statements now seems premature.

It's a problem that needs solving but they're still doing very well in all tournaments and play with quality and purpose.
January 20, 2026 at 8:32 PM
I mean how could we possibly know that? He's played like 2-3 games? One of them was excellent.

I was only really making the comment in relation to Rodri.

Ppl were saying City got carved open by Utd and Rodri was excellent that game. Their CBs caused so much trouble.
January 20, 2026 at 8:05 PM
Yeah like I hinted at it’s really a sidestep that shifts the slight advantage from defenders to attackers.
But again with how the conversations around “petty” offsides have been I think this possible change pleases more people than the current rule set.

Perhaps not. But you have to account for the possible outliers and can see it getting messy. However I don’t have the data on how many (i.e. few) errors this would actually rectify over a full season.
January 19, 2026 at 10:12 PM
Oh I noticed, just asked a rhetorical 😅

Removing the possibility of dealing out a yellow card as long as it still ends up being a goal would incentivize foul play. DOGSO only saves you from a red if you try to play the ball.

That is and would not be the case for yellows.
January 19, 2026 at 5:16 PM
That’s exactly what this rule would cut out though?

The 8 sec rule for GKs holding the ball has worked superbly. Haven’t seen a single post all season complaining that a GK held the ball too long. And there’s been like 2-4 corners given? About as perfect as it gets!
January 19, 2026 at 2:03 PM
30-60 secs is the range yeah. I’m not sure where I stand in that range however.
January 19, 2026 at 2:01 PM
Definitely agree it adds another subjective layer which usually is to be avoidable. However I understand it as a counter to the most extreme “tactical fouls” where there is a very clear and massive chance but it’s stopped with the most egregious shirt pull you’ll ever see.
January 19, 2026 at 1:57 PM
2 mins is a long time. Too long I feel like. But it’s a damn difficult sweet spot to hit (if it even exists). How could you possibly punish real injuries the same as fake ones? A ref can never be expected to distinguish which is which so the middle ground can’t be too harsh.
January 19, 2026 at 1:51 PM
Sure but the amount of time required is very substantial. And I can’t imagine that the VAR team keep situational reviews like side projects for whenever there’s a stop in play. Let’s check it for 15 secs here. Then 20 secs here 4 minutes later.

Perhaps not but I don’t see how that makes sense. I’m on a yellow, you’re through on goal. I pull your shirt off but you square it to your teammate for a tap in. By what logic should I escape a booking there?
January 19, 2026 at 1:05 PM
That seems highly unlikely as the game will be going on during their review. Average amount of bookings is around 5 maybe? That’s what? 8-11 minutes of reviewing first bookings? During play. Does not seem feasible to me.

- Will be discussed: The "Timed Substitution Rule" requires a player to leave the field within 10 sec. If they do not, their replacement must wait 60 seconds to enter after the restart of play.

Also good for the same reasons. It is so blatantly used for time wasting atm. Simple implementation too.
January 19, 2026 at 12:55 PM
- Countdown for throw-ins and goal-kicks. The proposal is that possession would flip to the opposition if a countdown runs out.

Goes hand in hand with the successful GK countdown I was very supportive of in the summer. No brainer. Cut out time wasting!

- Fifa believes it has the resources to review corners - every one before it is taken, not just those which lead to goals. Ifab rejected this ideas in Oct.

This basically just comes down to if VAR got enough time or not. It seems impossible. Sometimes quick corners are taken within seconds.
January 19, 2026 at 12:47 PM
- An outfield player who has treatment must leave the field for 30sec.
The same logic cannot be applied to GKs so Ifab is considering forcing a coach to remove an outfield player instead.

Guess this is fair. It seems harsh because a different player must come off but is there really a difference?
