I'm a pragmatist, I suppose, in that I think we should evaluate practices based on their actual outcomes, not on their idealized claims.

It's hardly a wonder that Buddhist societies are the one's that are easiest to overthrow & dominate.
Imagine if the Dalai Lama had held the line w/ the Chinese. It's well understood that had he allowed the Eastern Tibetan Khampas to hold the pass, they could've done so for years.

At first I considered leaving the Insight Meditation tradition.
Then, I realized that I have as much, if not more, claim to the lineage as my teachers do.
It's how we live the wisdom of the Dharma that counts.

If one can abandon the view of an independent and fixed self, one can certainly abandon ideologies that necessitate the suffering of others.
