Gratitude to Bhikkhu Bodhi for responding to my piece: “Is the Insight Tradition Complicit in Genocide?”

I have watched him be a tireless advocate, not only for Palestinians, but for pretty much all people facing overwhelming suffering.

He’s a real one. 🙏
What does compassion call for?

I'm a pragmatist, I suppose, in that I think we should evaluate practices based on their actual outcomes, not on their idealized claims.

Everything is a security threat when you can't untangle trauma-activation from genuine threat detection.

If you’re being offered power and don’t take it, who’s the source of your disempowerment?

Brodhisattva Vows:

“My compassion is unconditional.
My boundaries are firm.
My commitment to protecting life is fierce.
My presence is stable in crisis.
I protect the village and the Dharma.”

Buddhism: Anger is Bad

Also Buddhism: Come on In & Take Our Land
:::: sigh ::::

It's hardly a wonder that Buddhist societies are the one's that are easiest to overthrow & dominate.

Imagine if the Dalai Lama had held the line w/ the Chinese. It's well understood that had he allowed the Eastern Tibetan Khampas to hold the pass, they could've done so for years.

Gratitude to my Jewish friends who have put decency and friendship over a dehumanizing ideology.

You know who you are, and I will never forget the courageous stand you're taking for Mwe.

Without you, I would not be.

If u know, we know.

At first I considered leaving the Insight Meditation tradition.

Then, I realized that I have as much, if not more, claim to the lineage as my teachers do.

It's how we live the wisdom of the Dharma that counts.

If ever a Buddhist teacher recommends you be silent, be very sure you know what they mean by that.

Many of them confuse equanimity with silence in the face of oppression.

Ironic topic given Sharon’s complete silence on Gaza.

Jhāna = Zen
Dhyāna → Jhāna → Chan → Zen.
Same word. Same underlying lineage. Same fundamental meaning.

A politics of adulthood: honesty, accountability, & cooperation. That’s the Alt-Middle.

America isn’t polarized, it’s manipulated.

The Alt-Middle arises the moment we stop letting ourselves be.

If one can abandon the view of an independent and fixed self, one can certainly abandon ideologies that necessitate the suffering of others.

Maybe the U.S. wouldn't need so much National Security if we weren't such a horrendously bad steward of power. 🤷🏻‍♂️
