I remember when I first got out of college and wondered aloud what people in white collar jobs did before the internet. The water cooler phenomenon and all, yeah, but what did their work downtime consist of? And even then, internet pre-social media? I fear for the long-term wiring of my brain. 😵💫

The irony of this particular character is that it went from this, 愛, to this, 爱. It must have been a bitter sinologist who was responsible for taking the heart out of love during its simplification!

I mean, I completely understand that it wasn't "just because we're nice people," but part of a larger marketing strategy by the bakery to connect with local businesses. That said, it was still unexpected and unnecessarily generous of them to give out this much stuff for free!

I was very into her for about a year, starting in the summer of 2005, after I had just graduated from college! Whenever I hear any of those songs from the Felt Mountain, Black Cherry, and Supernature albums, it instantly takes me back to that first year out of school.

I hear that! If I could go back to the early ‘00s, I’d tell my younger self to not get so enthralled with every new social media platform and not put so much of myself out for the world to see and consume.

Only tangentially related but I get flabbergasted when I click a link to a news article while on a mobile device and the site will be running a banner on the top of the page, on the bottom of the page, and also a pop-up in the middle, leaving literally only two or three lines of copy even visible.
