Trying to break up my doomscrolling with nice things, like this tomato soup I made for lunch. That’s toum (garlic sauce) in the center, along with a smattering of herbs. I made this spicy with some hot paprika and my fave, yuzo koshu.

Don’t sleep on “The Mastermind.” A heist flick that subverts the heist flick; a meditation on American exceptionalism; a visual homage to William Eggleston, Robby Müller (“The American Friend” in particular), Stephen Shore; a movie that sidewinds through genres but establishes its own jazzy rhythm.
